History, HSQE and Approvals

History of WIKING
WIKING was founded in August 1975 by VTG Vereinigte Tanklager und Transportmittel GmbH in Hamburg, a company of the former Preussag AG and the Norwegian helicopter company, Helikopter Service A.S. in Oslo.

Since 14th August 2017 WIKING has a new sole shareholder with KAAN Air INTERNATIONAL AG, Zurich/Switzerland.

The registered office of WIKING Helikopter Service GmbH is in Wilhelmshaven. The operational base is right on the North Sea coast, at JadeWeserAirport. We are able to offer our services to all airports, ports and offshore facilities in this area and along the coast.

Originally founded purely as support for sea pilot transport, WIKING now also flies for international oil and gas companies and supplies the offshore wind industry with personnel and material transport services.

WIKING serves the German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies as an airborne component in rescue operations at sea. We also train the Federal Airborne Rescue Services on the JadeWeserAirport base and, together with the ARGE Küstenschutz coastal protection agency, WIKING provides protection along the German coastline in cases of shipping emergencies.

Health, Safety, Quality and Enviroment (HSQE)
Is of great importance at WIKING Helikopter Service
We do not leave the quality of our services to chance! Our goal is the best possible satisfaction of our customers, both technically and personally. In order to achieve this goal, WIKING has been certified by DNV in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001: 2008 (DNV-GL since 12.09.2013). This certification helps us to structure our processes and responsibilities and to adapt them to the requirements of our customers. Through the active involvement of our employees, we learn and continuously improve the organization.

The continuous improvement process therefore provides the basis for regulating and standardizing our processes in order to ensure consistent quality and to enable employees to work day-by-day in order to meet the needs and wishes of our customers individually.

To further contribute to environmental protection and prevent work-related injuries and illnesses amongst our employees, as well as to protect the health of employees, an environmental management system has been established. A work management system has been integrated into the existing system this year.

In August 2017, WIKING Helikopter Service successfully passed the certification according to DIN EN ISO 14001: 2015 (environmental management system) and BS OHSAS 18001 (work management system) through DNV-GL. WIKING also successfully completed the re-certification and conversion to DIN EN ISO 9001: 2015.

Both systems include occupational safety, health and environmental management. The goal is to use future-proof, environmentally compatible and cost-saving solutions. A constant goal for WIKING is to comply with all applicable laws and relevant and legal regulations. In the course of the initial certification OHSAS 18001 and DIN EN ISO 14001:2015, the existing DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 will be converted to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
In order to build up a lean but efficient control system, the company  management has decided to implement a consistently process-oriented  management, which combines the demands of quality, environmental  protection and work safety as well as all other requirements of the  company.

The HSQE management system at WIKING is divided into three areas with three different managers. The first area relates to the whole HSQE management described above. The HSQE Manager is responsible for implementation and further development.

The second area is the technical quality management for the technical operation Part-M and Part-145. The Compliance Monitoring Manager monitors this area. The department head of the HSQE department performs this role. The Compliance Monitoring Manager has been accepted by the German Federal Aviation Authority (Luftfahrtbundesamt LBA).

The third area is the quality management of the WIKING flight operations department. It covers the flight operations, ground handling, crew training and the WIKING Approved Training Organisation (ATO). A compliance monitoring manager as well as a safety manager, who is also responsible for the Helicopter Flight Data Monitoring System, will be used in the field of monitoring. The Compliance Monitoring and Safety Manager are positions that are required to be filled by suitably qualified and experienced people who are approved by the (Luftfahrtbundesamt LBA).
